That the Urban Development Subcommittee

1.    Confirms the minutes of the meeting of the Urban Development Subcommittee, held on 8 March 2022, as a true and correct record.

That the Urban Development Subcommittee

1.        Confirms, in accordance with sections 48(5) and 48(6) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, that Carrie Mozena from Nelson Tasman Housing Trust remain after the public has been excluded, for Item 2 of the Confidential agenda (Totara Street Requests for Proposal), as she has knowledge that will assist the meeting.

Zola Rose, from Common Ground, presented a powerpoint presentation (attached A2853201) on inclusionary zoning, land availability and collaboration with Council for a tiny house community in the Nelson and Tasman Districts.

6.       Chairperson's Report

Document number R26661

The Chairperson, provided a verbal report and acknowledged the International Day of the Woman, noting the systemic challenges for women in the areas of housing and poverty, particularly when women find themselves staying in an abusive situation due no other housing options.  She said it was a human right to have safe housing, security, peace and dignity and changes in law for healthy homes had gone some way but still had a long way to go.

 

7.       City Development Update

Programme Lead City Development, Alan Gray, provided a presentation on the City Centre Streets for People Programme.

Group Manager, Clare Barton, answered questions on alignment with other existing infrastructure projects, planning for initiatives to encourage people into town and a linear park which was a priority.

The committee moved into confidential session to receive feedback on strategic housing.
